How Company Radar builds its numbers
Company Radar turns Estonian Business Register open data into market figures. This page explains, in plain language, where each number comes from — and where it falls short.
Data sources
Every figure comes from the Estonian e-Business Register (RIK) open data — the same public register every Estonian company files into. Company Radar reads company records, their registered activities (EMTAK) and their addresses. It does not add private or third-party data.
How fresh the data is
Company Radar imports register changes once a day. The snapshot shows the date of the most recent successful import ("registry data as of …"). Figures are not real-time: a company registered or changed today typically appears the next day, and the register itself can lag real-world events.
What "companies in this market" means
The headline count is the number of companies whose registered activity falls in the chosen industry and whose status is active. It is the same count Market Explorer produces for the same filters. A broader industry selection includes more companies; a narrower one includes fewer.
Industry classification (EMTAK 2025)
Industries use EMTAK 2025, Estonia's official activity classification. It is a tree: broad sections contain divisions, which contain groups and classes. Picking a section is a broad market view; picking a class or subclass is a narrow one. A company can have more than one registered activity.
New registrations (30 / 90 / 365 days)
These are counts of companies newly entered in the register during the last 30, 90 and 365 completed calendar days (Europe/Tallinn time). They are a registration count only — not net market growth. They do not subtract companies that closed or left the sector in the same period.
Regional distribution
The regional split covers only companies with an address that resolves to one of Estonia's 15 counties. Companies with no address on file, a foreign address, or an address outside those counties are not shown, so the county rows usually add up to less than the market total. Each county's share is measured against that resolved subset.
Contact coverage
The email, phone and website figures show how many companies in the market have that contact channel recorded in the register — a count and a percentage. The free snapshot shows only those totals; it does not reveal the actual email addresses, phone numbers or websites. Those are part of the paid export, where available.
Example companies
The snapshot lists a small, fixed sample of matching companies (at most ten), newest registrations first. It is a preview, not the full market list. Each row shows the name, registry code, main activity, county and registration date, plus an indicator of which contact channels are on file. The complete, exportable list is in Market Explorer.
Limitations
- Register data can be incomplete, out of date, or contain errors at source.
- There is a lag between a real event and its appearance in the register, and a further lag before the daily import.
- Address and contact details are missing for some companies, which lowers the regional and coverage figures.
- A company's registered activity may not match what it actually does.
- Company Radar is market and B2B research. It is not legal, credit, tax or investment advice, and carries no payment-history or risk scoring.
